The kitchen

Comfort food, by the sea.

Breakfast, oysters and ceviche from the Baja, tacos, burgers, pizzas and waffles. Unfussy food made with local produce and the sea in front of you — come with the kids or the dog.
I was born in Querétaro and I am a choyero —a Baja California Sur local— at heart. My cooking is a contemporary interpretation of Las Californias. After many years living in Baja California Sur, I found in this land a culinary identity that inspires me every day. I want to express the sea, the desert, the ranches and the orchards of our land through honest, technical cooking that is deeply tied to local produce. More than cooking, I want to tell the story of this extraordinary region in every bite.

Frequently asked questions

What people ask before they come.

Where is SanJo Beach Club?

At Bahía de Palmas 3356, Hotel Zone of San José del Cabo, Baja California Sur, Mexico, facing the Sea of Cortez.

What time do you open?

Summer hours: we are open Tuesday to Sunday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. We are closed on Mondays.

How much does it cost to eat here?

Between $300 and $600 Mexican pesos per person, depending on what you order. Dishes run from $110 to $645, breakfast from $160 to $350 and cocktails from $250 to $300. All prices are in Mexican pesos, include tax and are subject to change without prior notice.

Do you take cards or US dollars?

Yes, cards are accepted at the restaurant. We also take US dollars, at an exchange rate of 16.50 pesos to the dollar (subject to change). Parking is separate: that one is paid through the KIGO app, which you top up with a card inside the app.

Can I see the menu before I go?

Yes. The full menu is on the site with descriptions and prices: breakfast from 9:00 am, snacks, tacos, pizzas, burgers, Baja seafood, desserts and the cocktail bar.

Do I need a reservation, or can I just show up?

You can walk in, but booking helps: the restaurant seats 40 and it fills up, especially on weekends. Tables are booked on OpenTable or at +52 624 145 0094; loungers on WhatsApp at the same number.

How much is the day pass?

$1,300 Mexican pesos per person, per day. Of that total, $1,100 is credited toward food and drinks at the club. It includes a reserved lounger, the exclusive-use pool, showers, changing rooms, lockers, towels and Wi-Fi. Space is limited: book on WhatsApp at +52 624 145 0094.

Can I just come to eat, without a day pass?

Of course. The restaurant is open to everyone and you do not need a day pass to come for breakfast or lunch. What the day pass covers is the pool and a reserved lounger.

How many loungers are there?

Ten in total: 6 by the pool and 4 on the beach. It is a small club, so the beach day is booked ahead on WhatsApp at +52 624 145 0094.

Can you swim in the sea?

The sea in front of SanJo is for looking at, not for swimming. To get in the water there is the exclusive-use pool, with showers, changing rooms, lockers and towels.

Is there parking?

Yes. You get 15 minutes free; after that it is $30 pesos per hour, capped at $150 pesos for the whole day if you validate at the club — ask at your table before you leave. You pay through the KIGO app, on both the App Store and Google Play: creating an account takes a minute and only needs a mobile number, and you top up the balance with a card inside the app. Worth getting it before you arrive, as there is no booth and no cash payment for parking: download the KIGO app.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes, we are pet friendly and we bring them water. Keep them on a leash.

Is it a good place to bring kids?

Yes. We do not have a formal kids menu, but the kitchen adapts dishes for children. Keep in mind the sea is not for swimming and the pool is for day pass guests.

Are there vegetarian or vegan options?

Yes: vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free. We also adapt dishes for allergies — tell us when you book or when you arrive.

What kind of food do you serve?

Comfort food by the sea: breakfast, burgers, tacos, sashimi, waffles, pizzas and birria chilaquiles, made with local produce. The kitchen is led by César Pita, chef and partner.

Who is the chef?

César Pita, chef and partner. Born in Querétaro and a choyero (a Baja California Sur local) at heart, his cooking is a contemporary interpretation of Las Californias: the sea, the desert, the ranches and the orchards of Baja California Sur, with local produce. He is also behind Lumbre, his signature restaurant, recommended by the Michelin Guide.

Is there live music or a DJ?

Only at events. The rest of the time it is a quiet beach club, not a party one.
